Matthew currently lives in "a wonderful resort community" in Central Wisconsin called Hatfield.
After graduating early from high school, Matthew moved to Southern California, where he immediately got a job traveling for a major corporation. That role included travel to seven states and numerous cities, conducting various types of quality control for the corporate offices of Times-Mirror.
After nine years of travel, Matthew attended college as a re-entry student in Central and Northern California, ultimately graduating from Humboldt State University. He earned degrees in journalism, with an emphasis in photojournalism, along with a minor in public relations.
After writing and doing layout for newspapers, including the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Matthew started his own photography business, which he successfully operated for approximately 25 years.
Matthew inherited essential tremor from his mother, and over time the condition brought an end to a beloved career.
In addition to visiting most of the 50 states, his travels have included trips to France and Italy.
After joining two other support groups for essential tremor, Matthew founded his own. The group has been meeting for more than three years and includes members from across the United States and Canada.
Matthew's parents both loved meeting and talking with new people and helping the less fortunate. He likes to think those traits were instilled in him, along with the belief that one should "never judge a book by its cover."
History and lifelong learning are also important parts of Matthew's life, as are silent sports, photographing wildflowers, and investing in the market.
Finally, Matthew always has an audiobook in progress. Most of the books are light mysteries that take place in England or elsewhere in Europe. His favorites include a touch of humor and are often based on historical fiction.
