Individual study budgets can each look reasonable while the overall research portfolio loses money. This session takes the leadership view: forecasting revenue and effort across a portfolio, understanding contribution margin by study and therapeutic area, and identifying the study types that consistently underperform. We will discuss capacity planning, indirect cost recovery, residual balances, and the metrics that belong on a leadership dashboard. The session also addresses how to use portfolio data to make difficult decisions about which studies to accept and which to decline. Attendees will leave with a framework for connecting study-level budgeting to organizational financial health.
