David RP Almeida, MD MBA PhD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. He is President and CEO of Erie Retina Research, a clinical research organization offering cutting-edge surgical and pharmaceutical ophthalmic research. He is also President and CEO of the Centers for Advanced Surgical Exploration (CASExGLOBAL).

Dr. Almeida earned an Honors Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, Canada, a PhD in Pharmaceutical Drug Research from the University of Szeged, Hungary, an MBA in Healthcare Management from The George Washington University, and completed medical school and his ophthalmology residency at Queen's University, Canada. Dr. Almeida furthered his education by completing a vitreoretinal disease and surgery fellowship at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Almeida has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and has spoken at more than 250 national and international conferences and keynote presentations. His research interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye diseases, complex surgical techniques, and practice management efficiency. He has received numerous awards from the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is regularly recognized in Top Doctor Awards. Dr. Almeida has served as principal investigator in over 75 clinical trials at Erie Retina Research, ranging from pre-clinical to phases one through four. 

Dr. Almeida loves to travel with his wife, Jasmine, and their three children during his free time. He is also an avid guitar player and an ultramarathon runner, having finished multiple 100-mile races.
