Description
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)—including NPs, PAs, and clinical pharmacists—now play critical roles in clinical research as sub-investigators, recruiters, and coordinators. Over 70% are interested in trials, supporting enrollment, patient education, and protocol management, especially in oncology.
NPs and PAs are well-trained for principal investigator roles, with expertise in exams, assessments, prescriptions, and diagnoses. They may act independently or with physicians, depending on regulations. In this session, our panel will discuss Mentorship programs and other approaches to further prepare NPs and PAs for research leadership roles.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify various roles for APPs in clinical research.
- Describe the qualifications and competencies that enable NPs and PAs to serve as principal investigators or sub-investigators for clinical trials.
- Discuss strategies that support the development of NPs and PAs into research leadership roles within clinical trials.
